Lead climbing is an exhilarating step beyond bottom rope climbing. When a route is led, the climber trails a rope below them as they ascend and clip it to runners that punctuate the face of the wall in order to safeguard him or herself.
Having mastered the fundamentals of belaying a bottom rope climber, and developed some confidence in your own climbing ability, learning to lead will help you to develop new skills and will present you with an array of new challenges.
The Learn to Lead course lasts for four hours and takes place at one of the North East’s premier climbing facilities. Like the Climbing Skills course, the Learn to Lead course requires a minimum of two participants who must have experience of belaying using a bottom rope system and must be confident, competent climbers. Places are limited to four per session. Participants should come equipped with their own harnesses and climbing shoes. Ropes will be provided for the duration of the course.
