Indoor climbing has increased greatly in popularity during recent times, largely due to growing numbers of urban climbing walls. Many people, adults and children included, have taken to climbing as it offers an array of great opportunities: climbing helps you to stay fit and active, it’s not only physically engaging, but also encourages analytical reasoning, it’s low impact and it will undoubtedly draw you into new social circles and adventures. Furthermore, individual climbs are generally graded to indicate difficulty. This means that, whether you’re a beginner or expert, it’s easy to find a route to suit your ability.
The Indoor Climbing Experience lasts for an hour and a half and takes place at one of the North East’s premier climbing walls. The focus of the session is solely on climbing, rather than learning the ins and outs of ropework. If you would like to learn the skills needed to climb safely; belaying whilst using a bottom rope system at an indoor climbing wall, please look at our Indoor Climbing Skills course.
What equipment do I need in order to take part?
All necessary equipment is provided free of charge for the duration of each of our climbing skills courses and experiences, both indoor and out. If you have your own equipment, provided it is in good, serviceable condition and falls within its recommended lifespan, you are welcome to use it. If we have any concerns regarding the safety or suitability of any third party equipment, participants may be required to use the apparatus that we provide.
Although advantageous, climbing shoes are not strictly necessary and will therefore not be provided. You are, however, welcome to hire shoes, at your own expense, if they are available at the course venue.
