Rock climbing is a spectacular pastime, and not solely the preserve of the brave. Climbing truly offers something for everyone, and none more so than those who love to be in the outdoors. There is no better feeling than conquering a challenging route before taking a minute to absorb the idyllic charm of the place in which you find yourself. If you love being outside, and enjoy a challenge that is both physical and mental, rock climbing might just be for you. Furthermore, you can now give this inspiring experience as a gift to a friend or family member.
The Rock Climbing Skills course lasts for six hours and takes place at one of Northumberland’s many superb sandstone crags. The focus of the session is on the skills needed to climb safely; belaying whilst using a bottom rope system. During the course you will learn how to correctly fit a climbing harness, how to tie into the rope, how to correctly attach and operate a belay plate, how to lower a climber from a route and some basic movement skills too.
Like the Indoor Climbing Skill course, a minimum of two participants are required to take part.
What equipment do I need in order to take part?
All necessary equipment is provided free of charge for the duration of each of our climbing skills courses and experiences, both indoor and out. If you have your own equipment, provided it is in good, serviceable condition and falls within its recommended lifespan, you are welcome to use it. If we have any concerns regarding the safety or suitability of any third party equipment, participants may be required to use the apparatus that we provide.
Although advantageous, climbing shoes are not strictly necessary and will therefore not be provided. You are, however, welcome to hire shoes, at your own expense, if they are available at the course venue.
